The 13th edition of The Walking Society takes us to Hydra, a small Greek island steeped in artistic and musical history, where the only mode of transport is on horseback. Striking a balance between past and present, Hydra leads a slow pace of life like nowhere else in the Mediterranean, with a creative scene that continues to flourish.

The island of Hydra is like no other in the Mediterranean. A place where you can only get around on foot or horseback, where the urban landscape has remained virtually unchanged for over a century, and where life is about authentic sustainability and slowness.
An Equine Island
Horses are the only mode of transportation on Hydra. A relic of the past in modern life but the steady heartbeat of this island.

A Hydra resident for 40 years, Dimitrios is an artist and curator—a graceful and recognizable figure on the island he understands deeply.
Protomagia
Spring, the season of new beginnings, is celebrated on Hydra and throughout Greece, starting with the festival of Protomagia on May 1.
Hydrama Theatre & Arts Center
A school founded by Corinna Seeds—bringing classical Greek theater and the arts to local and international students.
Stephan Colloredo-Mansfeld
Music producer and long-time resident, Stephan grew up on Hydra and continues to help shape the musical culture of the island.
Kids of Hydra
The children of Hydra keep the island young in an increasingly aging world—evident in the local football team made up of players of all ages, from kids to adults.
